“So you know what we want?” Marilyn looked at Lola, Jaden, and Thereta and bit her lip.
“We got it,” Jaden replied.
They had talked it through twice, but Marilyn was nervous about asking the three Refusers to face the potential risk of upsetting the Legionnaires. Lola understood the risk and also understood why Marilyn was concerned. All her years heading up the Resistance with so little help and so much danger had made it hard for her to trust important tasks to people she feared could be hurt.
“Yeah,” Thereta replied, “don’t worry. We can run away fast. They’ll have armor and all that… they won’t catch us.”
Marilyn took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Just be careful. If you make them feel threatened, there’s no telling what they’ll do. They’ve not been bad to the people, so far, but… well, we don’t want to give them a reason to start.”
