Rachel stood on the edge of town where the Finarsi Vogoner Road left East Camp to the east and looked far down it to where it bent and disappeared over a rise. She reached up and wiped a tear from her cheek.
“Rachel…” Edwin stood beside her with his hand on her shoulder. “No one will forget Ben. It was hard to attend to our thoughts and feelings when the mountain was trying to kill us, too, but I assure you, nothing that happened or didn’t happen should make you think his death is not remembered.
Rachel turned quickly to him. “I am not telling you how I think. I am telling you how I feel.”
“You can be sure that I will never, ever forget. I can see his face as he looked down at me and told me he was going to save me. I am humbled by his actions and humiliated by mine.”
